Arco Tyler is the ailing father of Arvin Tyler, captain of Orion, and the only surviving parent that Arvin has.

Tyler is hospitalized at the Aquaria City Extended Care Medical Center on Aquaria just prior to the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, and is visited by his son mere hours before Day Zero. In a discussion with Helen, one of Tyler's nurses, Arvin discovers that his father condition has deteriorated further, as Tyler has shown signs of dementia and loss of memory, as he failed to understand that his wife had long since died. During his visit, Arvin promises to find his father a better doctor, but this does not come to pass (Battlestar Galactica: Ghosts 1).
