Byron Dane is the lone survivor of a destroyed separatist colony on a planet in Neutral Space.
He is recovered by Captain Aaron Kelly and marines (Battlestar Galactica: Season Zero 1) and brought back to Commander William Adama and Julian DiMarco. Dane initially (and correctly) believes that DiMarco is responsible for the destruction of his colony, but Adama lies and blames the destruction on the Cylons (Battlestar Galactica: Season Zero 2).
Dane is taken to Galactica and is returned to Colonial space (Battlestar Galactica: Season Zero 2). Several months later, Dane becomes an outspoken critic of the Colonial government and gains the attention of the Cylons (Battlestar Galactica: Season Zero 8).
