Additional Information

First developed at the Scorpia fleet shipyards just a few years before the outbreak of the first Cylon war, the Manticore class Corvette, was considered to be a fairly unremarkable design for the earliest years of its career. With many of the colonies feeling that the small vessels were not sufficiently intimidating to serve as an effective military deterrent.

Predominantly used for hit-and-run tactics and scouting missions, the Manticore also serves well in larger strike groups as a flanking element. Long-range compatible missile tubes and an uncommon aft-facing turret configuration makes this a versatile fighter.

Background[edit]

Opinions of the vessel changed however in the early years of the Cylon rebellion, when Colonial Admiral McKenelley requisitioned a small number of Manticores that had previously served as law enforcement vessels to bolster his existing fleet. In their service under the admirals' command, the true tactical value of the Manticore class became very apparent, and before long the Manticore class became a staple of the early years of the Colonial Fleet.

As one of the smallest warships in the arsenal of the Colonial Fleet, the Manticore class is designed favorably for extreme speed and agility, and is primarily used for flanking attacks as well as occasionally being deployed in large numbers for "wolfpack" hit-and-run-operations.[1]

Notes[edit]

  • Alan Blackwell worked with Black Lab Games on the concept art for Battlestar Galactica - Deadlock. Most of the work consisted of taking flat 2D renders and turning them into fully 3D concept images[2]. His work included the Manticore corvette.
