Tigh is a Colonial serving in the Colonial Military during the last stages of the Thousand Yahren War and the lone battlestar Galactica's executive officer following the Cylon Holocaust.

The Thousand Yahren War

As a Viper pilot aboard battlestar Rylon in 7322, he and wingman Captain Adama are the first Warriors on site during the attack on Umbra, Caprica.

As they attempt to fight off phalanxes of Cylon Raider, Adama is shot down and crash-lands into the Thorn forest near Umbra. Before crashing, Adama orders Tigh to return to Rylon for reinforcements. He does so, and is able to secure a medi-ship to pick up both Adama and the young orphaned child whom saved his life (Battlestar Galactica: Starbuck #1).

The Path to Earth

In the aftermath of the Nebula Ambush, Tigh leads a damage control team to the luxury craft Ariadna, a ship whose engines are failing and leaving Athena to determine the next steps as to planning a future evacuation of the craft's passengers. After nursing the ship back to health, Tigh and his team return to Galactica after escaping into the storm zone, committing himself to keeping Ariadna operational for as long as possible (Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 2 #7). During the travel through the storm zone, Tigh and Apollo find themselves at odds over Adama's decline, particularly when Adama fervently professes his belief that Earth truly lies at the center of the storm zone (Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 2 #8).

Following the Battle at Galaxy's Edge, Tigh assumes command of Galactica following Adama's incapacitation due to transit through a mysterious black hole (Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 3 #1). During this time, Tigh participates in deliberations over Lucifer's request for sanctuary against the Meclons. Despite his distaste for the Cylons, he coordinates efforts on defense between Lucifer's Cylons and the Colonial Warriors, including Baltar's efforts to integrate Cylon programming into Vipers (Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 3 #3 & #4).

Tigh is pleased at Adama's recovery and stops Apollo from shooting Adama following Apollo's realization that Iblis possesses him (Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 3 #5).
