An unknown artifact is discovered by the Fleet within a storm zone.
The artifact takes on two appearances, the first being the shining planet Earth, particularly amongst the most fervent of believers, like Commander Adama. To others, the artifact appears to be a grey, three-level object roughly resembling a cube, with each level skewed and festooned with large black pustule formations (Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 2 #8).
However, like Earth, the artifact itself is a phantom. Upon probing it, Athena uncovers the data relating to the cube is coming from Galactica itself, localizing it to habitation chamber 13, located at the port side of deck 8: Xam's berth (Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 2 #9).
Upon the revelation that Xam is responsible for the mirage (both of "the artifact" and the ersatz Earth), these disappear when Xam uses his newfound psionic powers to project a force of battlestars impeding the Cylon advance. This distraction allows the Fleet to escape from the storm zone, but results in Xam's demise (Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 2 #9).
