Gawr is the adoptive father of Starbuck and, like his wife, Doreen, is classified as a "victim" of the Thousand Yahren War.

Gawr's war injuries resulted in having a hook for a hand, as well as having one leg shorter than another, presumably as a result of reattachment (The Young Warriors).
