Kel is the young son of Jor, a Colonial scientist and captain of the Agro Ship Rhea. Kel lives with both his parents aboard ship following the Battle of Cimtar.

During a fierce battle within the Fleet, Kel is found by his father hiding in the ship's arboretum, frightened by the ongoing war with the Cylons and pessimistic about the Fleet's chances of finding Earth.[1]

Jor comforts his son, prophesying that Kel's courage, strength, and wisdom will lead the human race to victory and guide them to their promised land. Inspired by his father's words, Kel dreams of being the one to point the way to Earth, standing over the corpse of the Imperious Leader, and celebrating their victory with Warriors Jolly, Apollo, Boomer, and Starbuck.

Jor calls Kel the "rag-tag fleet's favorite son" and a "miracle" who will prove that miracles do come true, giving the young and impressionable child a sense of hope ((ComicsFavorite Son)).[2]

Notes

edit
  • Assuming that the comic adheres to the established canon of the Original Series, it is entirely feasible that the attack depicted is the Battle for the Agricultural Ships. If so, then it is likely that the ship is destroyed with all hands onboard, as the only surviving agro ship from that encounter is the Agro Ship 9. This may be why the story ends with the Viper having the Raider in its sights, but not destroying it, as it makes a direct run towards the arboretum where Jor and Kel are.
  • The names of "Jor" and "Kel" may be nods to the Superman ethos, notably Jor-El and Kal-El (a.k.a. Superman).
