"Shelly Godfrey" is the pseudonym adopted by a copy of Number Six that arrives on Galactica with a mission to apparently expose Gaius Baltar as a traitor. "Godfrey" presents a disc with surveillance footage that seems to indicate that Baltar was responsible for destroying the defense mainframes at the Colonial Ministry of Defense prior to the Fall of the Twelve Colonies.

During her time on Galactica, "Godfrey" reveals her underlying nature to be similar to that of her "sisters" as she attempts to seduce William Adama. She also claimed to have had an affair with Dr. Amorak.

The evidence she presents is initially determined to be authentic, which results in Baltar's arrest. Lieutenant Gaeta later determines that the footage was doctored, much to Baltar's astonishment, which further leads to Gaeta's comment on how "Godfrey" apparently wanted someone to find out that the so-called evidence was faked. Before she can be captured, Godfrey inexplicably disappears from Galactica without a trace (despite being closely shadowed by a team of Marines) and is never seen again, despite Fleet-wide searches.

In light of her actions, "Godfrey's" true aim appears to be an attempt to further establish Baltar's position of prominence in the Fleet and to protect him from any future claims of his complicity in the Colonies' downfall (Six Degrees of Separation).

A file photo of Godfrey exists in President Roslin's office aboard Colonial One as part of a dossier of identified humanoid Cylons. When, where, and how this photo was acquired is not known (Epiphanies).

Notes

  • Some fans have speculated that Ms. Godfrey was a physical manifestation of Baltar's internal Six or possibly even a mass hallucination, given her mysterious disappearance and her apparent goal of covertly helping Baltar, whom the other Cylons have not shown an interest in beyond his help in setting up the sneak attack (e.g. Centurions attacking his party in "Fragged", Ms. Biers's lack of any special interest in him beyond that which she had in any other Galactica resident in "Final Cut", etc.) And thus far none of the Six copies observed have given any indication that they were Godfrey. It is unclear whether this will ever be resolved.
  • The last name Godfrey is a derivative from Old French which in turn derives from the Old High German male proper name Godafrid meaning "the peace of God".
  • Ms. Godfrey's glasses, present in the CIC after her disappearance, were made by 'Vision Eye Design Ltd'.
