Columbia is one of the original twelve[1] battlestars created during the Cylon War.
During Operation Raptor Talon, Columbia is destroyed with all hands by the Cylons. As this was the final battle of the Cylon War, it is likely that Columbia was the last Colonial ship lost during the conflict.
Appearance wise, Columbia bears more hull plating compared to Galactica, and was also finished up with a blue paint job rather than the red seen on Galactica's hull.

The second Columbia is of an unknown (probably newer) type, featuring integrated command and control systems and Dr. Gaius Baltar's Command Navigation Program (CNP). It is reported as lost, along with Solaria and Triton, during the initial moments of the Second Cylon War.
Adama once served as executive officer on Columbia (Hero). Galen Tyrol also served on this ship at some point in his long career (Resistance).
Notes
- The name Columbia is a derivation of the name of 15th Century Genoan explorer Christopher Columbus, which itself is derived from the Latin columba, meaning "dove" or "pigeon"). While at first glance such an Earth-based name seems an unlikely choice for an "alien" culture, it might be a hint towards a different version of the Twelve Colonies' ancient history.
- Many fans believe Galactica to be a Columbia class battlestar. However, this is not supported by official sources, in neither the Original nor the Re-imagined Series. For the battlestar type Galactica belongs to, see Galactica type battlestar.

- ↑ In the first night of the Miniseries, Aaron Doral mentions that there were twelve Galactica type battlestars created during the Cylon War. Columbia is clearly of the same class as Galactica, and thus belongs to this type.
