Ian Rao is the husband of Kiplinn Rao, who are both in the group of five civilians picked up from Aquaria by Orion just before the Fall of the Twelve Colonies.

Ian introduces himself and his wife to Orion's captain, Arvin Tyler, just after the Cylons begin their attack—and before two brothers from the Children of Erebus make themselves known to Orion's crew and passengers (Battlestar Galactica: Ghosts 1).
