Kiplinn Rao is the wife of Ian Rao, who are both in the group of five civilians picked up from Aquaria by Orion just before the Fall of the Twelve Colonies.

Ian introduces her to Orion's captain, Arvin Tyler, just after the Cylons begin their attack—and before two brothers (Issac and Ismel Shanto) from the Children of Erebus make themselves known to Orion's crew and passengers (Battlestar Galactica: Ghosts 1). After Captain Alexander Chen shoots Issac in the leg twice to get Ismel's cooperation, Kiplinn and Ian note that they were medical students and prevent him from bleeding to death (Battlestar Galactica: Ghosts 2). Later, they tend to Arco Tyler after Tyler mounts a successful rescue mission to retrieve his dying father before the Cylons use Medusa to annihilate the planet, and give Tyler some advice when he voices his desire to make things right in his life (Battlestar Galactica: Ghosts 3).
