Notes[edit]

  • The name Columbia (derived from the Latin columba, meaning "dove" or "pigeon") is a derivation of the 15th Century Genoan explorer Christopher Columbus. While at first glance such an Earth-based name seems an unlikely choice for an "alien" culture, it might be a hint towards a different version of the Twelve Colonies' ancient history.
  • In fan fiction, Columbia is considered the class name of the Original Series battlestars. This is not substantiated by any official sources. Battlestar Wiki does not support this or any other fan fiction.
