Yahrens following the Battle at Galaxy's Edge in "The Hand of God," the Fleet finds itself continually harassed and fleeing from the Cylon fleets, even after abandoning Baltar on a planet (annual).
The Fleet in the Berkley Novelizations continuity is described as a "ragtag fleet" of civilian vessels that follow Galactica lead across the galaxies. The Fleet operates under a complex command structure with both military and civilian authorities, though tensions exist between civilian captains and military command.

Galactica itself is nearly destroyed, but due to the deployment of temporal weapons is able to find assistance from an alternate reality in the Nebula Ambush (vol2 & ).
Composition and Organization
Following that encounter, the Fleet is pushed into an unnamed storm zone by the Cylons, nearly losing an ailing ship, the pleasure liner Ariadna (vol2). While in this storm zone, various persons in the Fleet are subject to dreams of Earth, ultimately found to have originated from flight engineer Xam. Xam uses his psionic powers to project a large fleet of battlestars, which force the pursuing Cylon fleet to leave the storm zone, thus allowing the Fleet itself to escape (vol2—).
The Fleet consists of various types of civilian vessels, including supply ships, cargo vessels, and passenger transports. Many of these ships were converted from their original purposes following the destruction of the Twelve Colonies, such as ships that were once intergalactic shuttles before the Cylon attack.

The reprieve is temporary, and the Fleet's sole protector, Galactica, is forced to fend off a Cylon basestar. While its weapons are not enough to damage the basestar while shielded, Colonel Tigh and his repair crew use the ailing Ariadna in a suicide run. Ariadna overloads, eliminating the basestar's shielding, and allowing Galactica the final coup de grâce (vol2).
The Fleet includes both support level ships and military vessels, all of which can be placed on alert status during times of crisis. Commander Adama maintains authority over all vessels within the Fleet, though he acknowledges the concerns of all ships "under his command."

At a later point, Count Iblis creates a "black hole" that transports the Fleet into a realm separate from the known universe. A few of the ships are destroyed during transit, and other ships are damaged; an explosion of a tanker knocks Adama unconscious, making him susceptible to outside influence (folly).
Security Operations
Ironically, the Cylon fleet pursuing them sues for peace, and Lucifer's Cylons aid the Colonials against the Meclons (folly).
The Fleet operates under a comprehensive security system that includes guard patrols around the fleet perimeter. During times of elevated threat, these patrols are increased and all ships, both civilian and military, are placed on heightened alert status.<ref name="STG116">{{cite book|last=Larson|first=Glen A.|coauthors=Thurston, Robert|authorlink=Glen A. A shot of the "rag-tag fugitive fleet".

After the destruction of the Twelve Colonies in a devastating genocidal attack on the Colonial worlds, Commander Adama orders all survivors to find what operational ships that remain on their shattered worlds and fly them towards battlestar Galactica, the sole surviving battlestar after her sister warships are also destroyed in the two-prong Cylon attack. With nowhere else to call home, Adama decrees that the remnants of humanity will search for the Thirteenth Tribe on a planet called Earth.

Under the guardianship of Galactica, the Fleet comprises of 220 civilian ships. With the exception of Galactica, the ships are not capable of lightspeed flight. The Fleet's overall speed is limited to that of the slowest ship within the group. As all ships in the Fleet were filled to (or over) capacity, removing the slower ships from the caravan is not an option.

This article is in the Berkley Novelizations separate continuity, which is related to the Original Series. Be sure that your contributions to this article reflect the characters and events specific to this continuity only.

The Fleet in the Berkley Novelizations continuity is described as a "ragtag fleet"[1] of civilian vessels that follow Galactica's lead across the galaxies. The Fleet operates under a complex command structure with both military and civilian authorities, though tensions exist between civilian captains and military command.

Composition and Organization

edit

The Fleet consists of various types of civilian vessels, including supply ships, cargo vessels, and passenger transports. Many of these ships were converted from their original purposes following the destruction of the Twelve Colonies, such as ships that were once intergalactic shuttles before the Cylon attack.[2]

The Fleet includes both support level ships and military vessels, all of which can be placed on alert status during times of crisis. Commander Adama maintains authority over all vessels within the Fleet, though he acknowledges the concerns of all ships "under his command."[3]

Security Operations

edit

The Fleet operates under a comprehensive security system that includes guard patrols around the fleet perimeter. During times of elevated threat, these patrols are increased and all ships, both civilian and military, are placed on heightened alert status.[4] Combat operations are typically conducted "just outside the fleet's border," providing protection for the civilian vessels while allowing military squadrons to engage threats.[5]

Known Vessels

edit
 • Battlestar Galactica - Command ship and military protector of the Fleet
 • Broadside - Supply ship and cargo vessel[1]
 • Rising Star - Civilian vessel with casino facilities[6]
 • Foundry ship - Civilian vessel producing replacement Vipers for the Fleet, notably the unique "Twisters"

Cultural Life

edit

Despite the hardships of their exodus, the Fleet maintains cultural activities including theater troupes that travel between ships to provide entertainment. These performing groups play various venues throughout the Fleet, with the Galactica considered "the big time" as it represents "a command performance" aboard the command ship.[7] The Fleet's size means that it would take "multicentons to play every single ship."[7]

Civilian-Military Relations

edit

The relationship between civilian ship captains and military command is often strained. Some civilian vessel commanders express resentment at being "under [Adama's] thumb" rather than simply under his command.[3] The Fleet includes ships that serve as refuges for various types of individuals seeking to avoid attention from fleet authorities, including former prisoners and those escaping debts or other complications from civilian life.[6]
