Cerebus is a civilian ship serving as the archive vessel within the Colonial Fleet.

Cerebus serves the fleet in a specialized capacity, housing the archives and historical records of the Twelve Colonies. The ship is positioned among the other civilian vessels in the middle section of the fleet, visible alongside notable ships such as the Delphi, a marketplace freighter, and the Adena, a passenger liner.[1]

Battle of Kobol

edit source

During the Battle of Kobol, Cerebus participates in the massive fleet evacuation from the underground city beneath the planet's surface. As civilian vessels emerge through the crystalline fissure into the atmosphere, they become targets for attacking Cylon Raiders and Chitain Stinger fighters.

In the midst of the aerial battle, three Cylon Raiders that had been on the planet's surface rise through the cloud cover thrown up by the attack on the hidden city, attempting a strafing run against the unarmed civilian ships. The battlestar Daedelus, under Captain Athena's command, trains its artillery on the Raiders as they conduct their flyby. The gunnery crew scores two direct hits on the Cylon fighters, but is forced to cease fire to avoid hitting Cerebus.[2]

The third Raider disappears on the far side of Cerebus, making it impossible for Daedelus to target without endangering the civilian vessel. Colonial Warrior Bojay, flying a Viper, breaks away from the aerial battle and maneuvers his fighter between Cerebus and the Raider, opening fire. The Cylon ship is destroyed, its flaming wreckage spinning down to the surface of Kobol.[2]

Cerebus successfully evacuates from Kobol along with the majority of the fleet, escaping the combined Cylon and Chitain assault.[3]

  • The ship's name is likely a corruption of Cerberus from Greek mythology.
