Orestes is a transport vessel in the Fleet.
The ship becomes the center of a crisis when an outbreak of Parahelial Fever occurs among the 42 children aboard. Due to the danger to adults, its regular crew is evacuated and a new, immune crew led by Captain Apollo is brought aboard. The ship's only armament is a single, outdated Mark Three impulse beam.
During a Cylon attack, Orestes is severely damaged, losing its controls and communications, and is left adrift. It is presumed destroyed by the Fleet but has actually drifted towards a Cylon mothership. After its crew and passengers escape aboard a captured Cylon shuttle, Orestes is presumably left abandoned (Comics: Look-In Magazine: Storyline 3).[1]
Notes
edit- The name Orestes is a reference to the Greek mythological figure of the same name. The mythological Orestes was pursued and tormented by the Furies, a thematic parallel to the ship being relentlessly hunted by the Cylons.
