The Colonial Fleet organizes its Viper pilots into various color-coded squadrons, each tasked with different roles ranging from routine patrol to critical attack missions.

Squadrons

Blue Squadron

Blue Squadron is an elite squadron often assigned to frontline combat and special missions. It is frequently led by Captain Apollo and includes pilots such as Starbuck and Boomer. Blue Squadron is tasked with investigating anomalies, such as the initial distress call from Freighter Eighteen and the mysterious Tharian spaceship, as well as leading major attack missions ((ComicsLook-In Magazine: Storyline 1), (ComicsLook-In Magazine: Storyline 2)).[1][2][3]

Red Squadron

Red Squadron is an attack squadron that operates in conjunction with other units. Red Squadron is launched alongside Blue Squadron to engage a Cylon task force and create a diversion during the Heffren crisis (ComicsLook-In Magazine: Storyline 1).[4]

Green Squadron

Green Squadron is typically assigned to convoy patrol and interception duties. Green Squadron is launched to patrol the Fleet and is later dispatched to intercept an incoming Cylon attack force during the Parahelial Fever outbreak ((ComicsLook-In Magazine: Storyline 1), (ComicsLook-In Magazine: Storyline 3)).[5][6]

Cylon Counterpart

The Cylons also appear to organize their Raiders into named units.

Black Flight

A Cylon Raider unit identified as Black Flight receives a report about the crippled Freighter Eighteen (ComicsLook-In Magazine: Storyline 1).[7]
