Service History

Hyapatia participates in the defense of Poseidon during the Chitain assault on the colony. The vessel is part of the combined defense fleet alongside Galactica and other Colonial forces attempting to protect the colony from the alien invaders.

During the intense battle, three Chitain warships penetrate the defense perimeter and concentrate their combined fire on Hyapatia. The coordinated attack proves devastating, and the battle cruiser is destroyed.

Commander Athena, observing the battle from Galactica's bridge, announces the loss of the vessel to President Cain, expressing her condolences for the destruction of one of his colony's warships.

• The name "Hyapatia" may be a reference to Hypatia of Alexandria, a renowned Greek mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher.
