The fireleader coordinates firefighting activities aboard Galactica. They maintain contact with core command regarding the progress of the firefighting, as well as any potential fire-related hazards.
After a Cylon kamikaze attack on Galactica, the battlestar's fireleader coordinated with Colonel Tigh and Flight Officer Omega while his team uses hand-held boraton units to combat the fires that had sprung up across the ship. His team's efforts were in vain, necessitating Apollo and Starbuck's use of solonite charges in creating hull breaches to smother the blaze before it reached Galactica's energizers (TOS: "Fire in Space").
