Flight Corporal Rigel is a Colonial Core Command operative on battlestar Galactica. Rigel is noted for being a professional woman who approaches her responsibilities with enthusiasm.

Dynamite Entertainment

edit source

Sometime in 7348, she enters the officer candidate program during the Fleet's transit through the Empyrean Expanse (ComicsBattlestar Galactica Classic #03).

She is present during the events leading up to and following entry into a black hole, as well as the battle between the Meclons and the combined Cylon and Colonial Fleet (ComicsBattlestar Galactica: Folly of the Gods).

While never referred to directly by name in Battlestar Galactica: Folly of the Gods, her distinctive hair style and approach are referenced throughout the comic.

Rigel's entrance into the officer candidate program is borne of an error by the colorist from Battlestar Galactica Classic #0, who gave her a blue uniform like other officers. John Jackson Miller, the writer of the series, turns this error into a story point in Battlestar Galactica Classic #3.[1]

Berkley Novelizations

Rigel serves as Flight Officer aboard Galactica and is responsible for conducting launch countdowns. She demonstrates her professional competence during the SuperViper test flight, where she conducts the countdown sequence with a "quiet and confident voice" that Apollo listens to through his commline.[2]

Later in the crisis, when a Cylon sabotage attack disables Galactica's engines, Rigel serves as the communication link between the bridge and Commander Adama during the emergency. When Colonel Tigh is not present on the bridge, Rigel reports directly to Adama, informing him that "the explosion seems to have been a bomb. Sabotage in the engineering section, it appears."[3]

During the subsequent battle, Rigel coordinates the launch of the SuperViper for its combat mission, where Apollo and Starbuck deploy in the SuperViper to engage the attacking Cylon forces.[4]

Rigel also handles routine communications, including Captain Apollo's requests for orders, demonstrating her role as a key bridge communications officer during both normal operations and crisis situations.[5]
