Captain Jor is a Colonial scientist, who commands the agro ship Rhea before the destruction of the Colonies.[1] He resides aboard the ship with wife and their son, Kel.

Biography

Before the Great Exodus, during the ongoing war with the Cylons, Captain Jor would often spend his time in the Rhea's main arboretum, searching the heavens.[2]

He finds his young son, Kel, hiding in the arboretum, frightened by the ongoing battle outside and despairing that the Fleet will be destroyed before they can find Earth. Jor comforts his son, reassuring him that they will find Earth as Commander Adama promised and that they will not die.[3]

To inspire hope in his son, Jor gives an impassioned speech, prophesying that Kel is destined to become a great hero. He tells Kel that through his courage, strength, and wisdom, the human race will defeat its enemies and be guided to its promised land. Jor calls Kel the "rag-tag fleet's favorite son" and a "miracle" who will prove to everyone that miracles do come true ((ComicsFavorite Son)).[4]

Notes

  • Assuming that the comic adheres to the established canon of the Original Series, it is entirely feasible that the attack depicted is the Battle for the Agricultural Ships. If so, then it is likely that the ship is destroyed with all hands onboard, as the only surviving agro ship from that encounter is the Agro Ship 9. This may be why the story ends with the Viper having the Raider in its sights, but not destroying it, as it makes a direct run towards the arboretum where Jor and Kel are.
  • The names of "Jor" and "Kel" may be nods to the Superman ethos, notably Jor-El and Kal-El (a.k.a. Superman).
