Baltifer is the name of a cybernetic entity created by Doctor Zee, merging the treasonous Lord Baltar and the IL-series drone Lucifer together following the destruction of the life-form known as man. Thus, Baltifer retains many of Baltar's qualities, namely an unbridled thirst for power and an unrelenting desire to utterly subjugate his enemies, perhaps tempered by Lucifer's inclinations of logic.
In an alternate reality, Baltifer leads the extermination of humanity's remnants across the galaxy as part of the Cylon Empire's galactic subjugation. This includes preventing the dying doctor Zee from replicating the transformation that created Baltifer for himself. This inspires Zee to continue his efforts at finding other ways to sustain his life, as well as developing technologies for use in Baltifer's (and, to perhaps a lesser extent, the Cylon Empire's) plans (Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 2 #2 — #5).
A temporally displaced Apollo helps turn the tide against Baltifer's efforts by encouraging the Colonial Resistance, lead by former President Adama, to be more aggressive in their guerrilla warfare. This culminates at a stand-off at the planetoid Cache, where Adama and Apollo present themselves to Baltifer, putting Adama in the position to slay Baltifer and seize command of Baltifer's baseship (Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 2 #3—#5).
