Rising Star is a medical transport and is the location of the first birth of a Colonial since the Fall of the Twelve Colonies ^(TRS: "33").

Ellen Tigh is placed aboard a MEDEVAC Raptor hailing from the vessel by John Cavil shortly before it departs from Picon during the Fall ^{(TRS: "No Exit" and "The Plan")}. She slips in and out of consciousness aboard the ship for three weeks and is attended to while being cryptically mocked by Cavil before William Adama locates her ^{(TRS: "Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down")}. She later procures a day-long stay there for her husband and herself, where she apparently meant for him to meet with agents of Tom Zarek ^{(TRS: "Colonial Day")}.

Galactica's chief medical officer, Dr. Sherman Cottle, is aboard Rising Star at the time of the attempted assassination of Commander William Adama ^{(TRS: "Scattered")}.

The ship's name is notably absent on the voting tally board on Galactica and the voting tally whiteboard on Colonial One ^{(TRS: "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II")}.

Rising Star survives the exodus from New Caprica, passage through the star cluster to the algae planet and the Battle of the Ionian Nebula before it would be flown into Sol after the discovery of Earth ^{(TRS: "Exodus, Part II", "The Passage", "He That Believeth in Me" and "Daybreak, Part II")}.

Notes

• Rising Star first appeared in the distant background in the establishing shot of the Fleet shortly after escaping Ragnar Anchorage, flying in formation between the Celestra (RDM) and one of the Colonial Movers freighters over a Gemon Liners Luxury liner in the distant background as almost a small blob in the background not noticed or distinguished until the release of the Blu-rays. Rising Star would be formally identified in "The Plan," albeit with a new color scheme.
• The ship's first mention would be in "33", with the first birth in the Fleet occurring here as mentioned by Billy Keikeya. The next mention would be in "Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down" then "Colonial Day," with a final mention at the beginning of Season 2's "Scattered". The ship would then be seen properly distinguished in "Pegasus" flying just beyond Pegasus and Galactica in the first shot of the Fleet following Admiral Helena Cain's arrival. It wouldn't be until Season 4's "Escape Velocity" where it would be part of main Fleet formation shots.
• Another vessel of the same design appears in "Razor" as part of the civilian fleet Pegasus encounters.
• Both designs are inspired by the design of the Original Series' Rising Star.
