Blessed Mother, Her Holy Mother, or simply Mother are variations on the title given to the leader of the Monotheist Church in the Twelve Colonies of Kobol in the years prior to the Cylon War.

Fifty-eight years before the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, Mother is based in the "Retreat" located in the mountains of Gemenon. Skeptical of Caprican Soldiers of the One cell leader Clarice Willow's notion of apotheosis, Mother authorizes Monotheist Conclave leader Obal Ferras to dispose of Willow. Gaining support from other STO members - including Diego - Willow is able to turn the tables, orchestrating Ferras' assassination as Mother looks on. Confronted by Willow and her plan for a "virtual heaven," Mother cedes control of all Caprican STO cells to Willow (CAP: "Unvanquished").

Mother later visits STO training camp leader Diego in his "rustic" living quarters. Disturbed by Lacy Rand's connection to Clarice Willow and her apparent ability to control U-87 Cyber Combat Units smuggled to Gemenon by the Ha'la'tha, Mother suggests that an accident might befall Rand during training. As a way of further securing Diego's loyalty, Mother gives him the ring that belonged to Obal Ferras before his murder (CAP: "The Heavens Will Rise").

Mother is subsequently deposed by Rand, who leads a successful coup against the church leadership using the U-87s and a handful of STO trainees, including Odin Sinclair, Lexon and Devanna. Rand herself takes on the position of Mother, with Sinclair serving as her lieutenant. Some time after Rand's coup, Clarice Willow visits her Holy Mother on Gemenon to plead for the Church's recognition of Cylons as members of the monotheist religion (CAP: "Apotheosis").

Notes

  • According to the unproduced outlines for Caprica Season 2, Mother was not killed during Rand's coup, and would have made an uneasy alliance with Daniel Graystone to reclaim her old position.[1]
