Additional Information

According to a scene cut from the episode "Valley of Darkness", the Brenik was a Colonial ship which was boarded by Cylon forces during the second year of the Cylon War. The Brenik was apparently a small vessel, with a crew of approximately 75, only 20 of whom survived the attack. Among the survivors was Petty Officer Saul Tigh, who at that time was a teenager serving as gunner's mate.

Tigh later recounted that the Cylon boarding party engaged his crew in hand-to-hand combat in a battle over the ship's ammunition magazines. By the end of the war, they would abandon this tactic in favor of venting a ship's atmosphere and turning its guns against its allies.

The loss of Brenik was apparently an infamous Colonial defeat, as years later when Tigh told William Adama he served on the ship Adama instantly knew its fate.

Notes

  • According to RDM's podcast, the scene was supposed to be similar to the scene in Jaws where Quint recounts the infamous fate of the USS Indianapolis.
  • Saul Tigh's true nature as revealed at the conclusion of "Crossroads, Part II" did not necessarily conflict with the Brenik story or Tigh's service there since, unlike other humanoid Cylons, one origin of the Five appears to be Earth itself. However, it has since been revealed that Tigh's story was implanted memories until a short period after the First Cylon War; therefore, while the events happened, he was no there.
