Landram

A landram is a tracked vehicle used for ground operations ^{(TOS: "Saga of a Star World")}, typically shuttled to a planet via a shuttle ^{(TOS: "The Gun on Ice Planet Zero, Part I")}. It is capable of holding crew and cargo, and is equipped with a top mounted turret weapon.

A landram was used for the initial scouting of Carillon. They were later used to evacuate civilians and warriors from the "pleasure resort" on the planet ^{(TOS: "Saga of a Star World")}.

Such crafts are typically conveyed to planetoid surfaces via shuttles.

Variants

A landram painted in a desert camouflage pattern is deployed to the surface of Kobol at the Warrior's encampment prior to the Battle of Kobol ^{(TOS: "Lost Planet of the Gods, Part II")}.

A version of the landram modified for use in frigid climates is the snowram ^{(TOS: "The Gun on Ice Planet Zero, Part I")}.

Power Sled

Another modified version, referred to as a power sled, this time without the cabin and open to the air and a storage bed, is used on Sectar. It does not bear any obvious Colonial markings, likely due to the clandestine nature of their mission in the aftermath of the Battle for the Agricultural Ships.

It is stolen by Sire Bogon's agents on the outskirts of Serenity to coerce the assistance of Starbuck, but later recovered ^{(TOS: "The Magnificent Warriors")}.

The Landram is an all-terrain surface transport vehicle designed for medium-range transport on planetary surfaces. A shuttle from a Battlestar or other interstellar spacecraft can be equipped with up to two Landrams. These vehicles come equipped with emergency supplies to support a crew of five for two weeks, a variety of currencies and valuable metals and medical supplies for all known natural poisons and diseases. Landrams travel slowly but with special traction gear and gyroscopic stabilizers, they can travel across the steepest and most uneven terrain.

In the separate continuity

Ovions overlook a landram on Carillon's surface ^{(Comics: Deathtrap!)}.

Landrams are deployed on Carillon to scout for sources of tylium, and later one of these is used by Lieutenant Jolly to take out numerous Centurions during the Battle of Carillon ^{(Comics: Deathtrap!)}.

Notes

• The landram craft was a snowcat provided by Thiokol, based on their "Imp" chassis with some modifications requested by production.
  • While some references claim the use of the "Spryte" chassis, the Imp has been positively identified due to two distinct differences: the sprocketed drive wheel at the front of the chassis (Spryte has it in the rear) and the tracks being a width of only 2 feet vs. the Spryte's track width of 8 feet.
• The landram was redressed multiple times for Glen A. Larson and Leslie Stevens' Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, also produced alongside the Original Series: the first time as a Earth Defense Directorate tank in "Awakening," a second time (in its "open" form) as a land vehicle in "Unchained Woman," a Draconian landcraft in "Escape from Wedded Bliss," and later as another Earth Defense Directorate craft in "Flight of the War Witch."
