Lieutenant Louis Hoshi is the communications officer on the battlestar Pegasus, and later becomes the communications officer on Galactica in a similar role to Lieutenant Anastasia Dualla. During his time aboard Pegasus, he at times carries out duties usually done by the tactical officer.
Shortly before the Cylon attack on the Scorpion Fleet Shipyards, Hoshi shows Lieutenant Kendra Shaw to her quarters and explains the basics of the ship's computer network to her. He is knocked unconscious when the opening salvo hits Pegasus. When Cain finds him, she is unable to wake him up and leaves him in the corridor for the time being. Later he is present in the CIC during Cain's speech about the colonies' destruction. When Shaw unmasks Gina as a Cylon infiltrator, she orders Hoshi to put the security camera feed of a dead Six on a screen (Razor).
Hoshi handles the wireless traffic between Pegasus and its Vipers during the stand-off between the two battlestars (Pegasus).
During the attack on the Guardian basestar Hoshi handles the communication between the battlestar and the strike team boarding the basestar and also reports the damage control status. Lee Adama also orders him to insert his nuclear launch key, after ordering a nuclear strike on the basestar (Razor).
One year after the settlement of New Caprica and following the departure of the Fleet, he is still serving on Pegasus in CIC (Occupation).
After the destruction of Pegasus, Hoshi is reassigned and serving in Galactica's CIC (The Passage).
During a standoff with the Cylons, Admiral Adama orders Hoshi to arm missile tubes 4 through 10, threatening to destroy the Temple of Five on the algae planet (The Eye of Jupiter).
After Lieutenant Felix Gaeta joins as crew of Demetrius, Hoshi takes Gaeta's duties. When the Cylon rebel basestar found by the Demetrius jumps to the Fleet, he relays Admiral Adama's orders for the Fleet to make an emergency jump and announces that the main batteries have acquired a firing solution on the baseship (Guess What's Coming to Dinner?).
In the webisode series "The Face of the Enemy", Hoshi is revealed to be in a romantic relationship with Felix Gaeta. When the Gaeta's Raptor goes missing en route to the Zephyr, Hoshi and Margaret "Racetrack" Edmondson mount a SAR mission to find him, which they eventually do. Once back aboard Galactica, Gaeta ends their relationship in order to protect Hoshi from any repercussions from his meeting with Admiral Adama.
