The Flattop type is a form of mobile rescue and repair vessel operating in the Colonial Auxiliary Fleet since the First Cylon War. During the war, they assisted battlestar groups in firefighting and in recovery and repair of troubled Fleet ships (Blood and Chrome).
A flattop is a type of salvage and repair ship in the Fleet, acting as a mobile spacedock. A Flattop-type ship is among the first vessels to join the Fleet Miniseries. Later a flattop-type is among the ships with Galactica when New Caprica falls Precipice.

Over forty years later, they are still in service, and at least two of these ships, Virgon Express, and Carina, are able to escape with Galactica following the Fall of the Twelve Colonies (TRS: Miniseries).
There are at least four flattop-type ships in the Fleet, including the Carina (lost during the passage through a star cluster) and the Virgon Express (noted for flying "upside down" whilst in flight).

There are at least four flattop-type ships in the Fleet, including the Carina (lost during the passage through a star cluster) and the Virgon Express (noted for flying "upside down" whilst in flight).
