He makes a subsequent appearance in "Exodus, Part II" near Roslin on New Caprica.
Early life
editBlatch was born and raised in Winnipeg, where he earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Winnipeg.[external 3] He holds dual Canadian and American citizenship.[external 1] He later relocated to Vancouver, British Columbia, where the bulk of his screen career has been based.
Career
editBlatch's screen credits date to the mid-1990s, with early roles on Canadian-produced series such as Poltergeist: The Legacy, Millennium, and Strange Luck.[external 4] Much of his work during this period drew on Vancouver's position as a hub for American television production, and he appeared in a range of TV movies and series filmed in the area, including The Net (1999) and Seven Days (2000).[external 4]
One of his earlier international credits was the Philips Matchline CZ Television advertising campaign, a worldwide commercial released in cinemas and on television, shot in Vancouver and Paris under French director Jean-Pierre Rioux.[external 1]
Battlestar Galactica
editWithin the Re-imagined Series, Blatch appeared as a background performer across three episodes, portraying recurring but uncredited characters near the show's central power structures.
His first appearance came in the Miniseries (2003), where he played a member of Galactica's Combat Information Center crew, identified as the Bespectacled CIC Operative. He returned in "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II," the Season 1 finale, this time as the Bespectacled Officer, one of President Roslin's security guards during the tense stand-off aboard Colonial One. His final appearance on the series came in "Exodus, Part II" (Season 3), where he appeared near Roslin during the evacuation of New Caprica.
Stargate franchise
editBlatch appeared in four episodes across both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. His most notable role in the franchise was the credited part of Tobias, an employee of the Farrow-Marshall Aeronautics corporation, in the Stargate SG-1 Season 9 episode "Ex Deus Machina" (2005), written by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie and directed by Martin Wood.[external 5] He also appeared in "Icon" (Season 8, 2004) as a rebel soldier and "The Road Not Taken" (Season 10, 2007) as an uncredited background performer.[external 4] On Stargate Atlantis, he played a scientist in "The Seed" (Season 5, 2008).[external 4]
Other genre work
editBlatch appeared in the revival of The Outer Limits in the episode "Alien Shop" (Season 7, 2001), directed by Peter DeLuise, playing a jewellery salesman.[external 4] His other genre credits include Flash Gordon (2007–2008, as a Holographer), The Dead Zone (2002), Dead Like Me (2003), and Once Upon a Time in Wonderland (2013).[external 4]
Other television and film
editOutside of genre work, Blatch's most substantial recurring role was Judge James Webber on the AMC Western drama Hell on Wheels, appearing across eight episodes in Seasons 4 and 5 (2014–2016).[external 1] His film credits include the comedy White Chicks (2004), in which he played eccentric fashion figure Aubrey Allure, and the France-Canada thriller The Black Door (2001), in which he played the lead role of Father Maxim Trenton.[external 1] Other film appearances include Dudley Do-Right (1999) and Josie and the Pussycats (2001).[external 4]
His later career has included work on New York-based productions, including Billions (2020) as Landau, The Loudest Voice (2019), The Blacklist (2017), and Law & Order: Organized Crime.[external 4] He has also appeared in music videos for Canadian bands Mariana's Trench ("All to Myself," 2009), Faber Drive ("The Payoff," 2010), and Jackie Valentine ("Never Gonna Break My Heart," 2011).[external 6]
