Gunnery Sergeant Erin Mathias is one of the few Marine NCOs seen in the series.
She is the Marine who leads Sharon Agathon's Marine escort on New Caprica as part of Admiral William Adama's rescue operation (Exodus, Part I).
She and her team repel a Cylon ambush on a prelimary meeting between Agathon and the New Caprica Resistance under Samuel Anders. Later she accompanies the resistance group back to New Caprica City to discuss the rescue plan with all leaders, among them Saul Tigh, Laura Roslin and Tom Zarek (Exodus, Part I). When Adama's plans are executed, Mathias is in charge of the Marines who participate in the attack on the New Caprica Detention Center (Exodus, Part II).
Mathias is later part of the party that boards the infected Cylon basestar discovered at the Lion's Head Nebula. She is assigned to execute the prisoners retrieved from this baseship in a failed plan to infect the entire Cylon race via the download process (A Measure of Salvation).
She leads the Marine force on the Algae planet and is ordered by Lee Adama to detain Samuel Anders when he wants to rescue his wife whose Raptor was shot down by the Cylons (The Eye of Jupiter).
