Free Cruiser Lightning was a "recovery ship," a scavenger vessel operating in the lawless outer regions of space twenty years after the First Cylon War.[1] Captained by the volatile Nadu, the ship had a crew of nineteen and was armed with outdated Viper Mark Is.[2]

Following a faint, pre-war signal, Lightning discovered the isolated Research Station Omega.[3] Mistaking the station for an easy prize, Captain Nadu sent two landing parties to the planet, both of which were attacked and overwhelmed by the station's Cylon "companions" and the Cylon Dreadnaught Invincible.[4]

After losing over a third of his crew, including Tom Zarek and Boone, Nadu retreated and gathered a small fleet of other scavenger ships.[5] He returned to lead a vengeful assault on Invincible, and Lightning was presumably destroyed in the ensuing one-sided battle.[6]
