Research Station Omega was a scientific outpost established by the Picon Colonial government approximately five years before the First Cylon War.[1]

History

edit

Officially, the station's purpose was to study the interactions between human settlers and modified, semi-sentient Cylons in an attempt to foster a more equal and cooperative society.[1] The project was forgotten by the Twelve Colonies after the outbreak of the war, leaving the station and its inhabitants isolated for thirty years.[1]

In reality, the station was a long-term Cylon intelligence operation designed to study humanity in a controlled environment. The Cylon "companions" were not coexisting with the human scientists but were managing them while secretly communicating with a nearby Cylon Dreadnaught, Invincible.[2]

The station is rediscovered twenty years after the Armistice by the scavenger ship Free Cruiser Lightning and subsequently by Galactica.[3] After a violent confrontation and the revelation of its true purpose, the station is abandoned. The human survivors are rescued by Galactica, and the Cylon companions upload their thirty years of research data to the Cylon collective before shutting themselves down.[4]

Inhabitants

edit

At the time of its rediscovery, the station's population consisted of four humans (Dr. Villem Fuest, Laea, Jon, and Vin) and 97 Cylon "companions."[5]
