Approximately two years prior to the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, Roslin was killed in a car accident by a drunk driver. Also killed in the accident was her sister Sandra as well as their father.

The accident leaves Laura Roslin momentarily traumatized and unsure of her direction in life (Daybreak, Part I).
