Rya Kibby is a 17-year-old woman from Gemenon.
She is four months pregnant when she sneaks aboard Galactica, seeking to get an abortion with the aid of Dr. Sherman Cottle. She eventually requests asylum in order to prevent her from being returned to her family before having an abortion.
The incident leads to a political struggle between President Laura Roslin and the Gemenese delegation, including their representative Sarah Porter.
Despite a proclamation by Roslin against future abortions, Kibby is still allowed to undergo the procedure, as she has made her request prior to the change in policy (TRS: "The Captain's Hand").
