Wyler is a Colonial Warrior serving in the Colonial Military during the last stages of the Thousand Yahren War, primarily as a flight instructor for rookie Viper pilots aboard battlestar Pegasus.
Wyler and Starbuck[edit]
As a Viper pilot and Lieutenant aboard battlestar Pegasus in 7331, he is assigned to have cadets shadow him. One such cadet of note is Starbuck.
The gregarious, roguish Wyler imparts various non-traditional Warrior lessons upon the impressionable Starbuck, so much so that Starbuck takes up fumerello smoking, gambling, drinking, and womanizing.
The day prior to Starbuck's graduation as a Warrior in 7335, Captain Wyler and his patrol are killed by a Cylon attack force, despite Wyler's promise to Starbuck to attend his graduation. This news is imparted by Adama, and leads Starbuck to mourn via gambling in the seedier areas of Caprica, during which Starbuck receives a clue into what may have actually transpired at Umbra (Battlestar Galactica: Starbuck 1).
Notes[edit]
- Wyler's quote about a pilot only having three ships in their lives is a tie-in from "The Young Lords," wherein Starbuck tells Boomer this quote from his flight instructor before crash-landing on Attila.
