Additional Information

A basestar is a large capital warship of the Cylon Empire.

Basestars are immense vehicles that, like their Colonial battlestar counterparts, serve as a combination of aircraft carrier and capital warship. They are capable of carrying and supporting over three hundred Raiders, the counterpart of the Colonial Viper, although they offer their own offensive potential.

A basestar can effectively hover over planets, making them orbital killers (Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 1 #1).

Cylon basestars feature life support systems to support other lifeforms, even though such equipment does not appear to be needed by the mechanical lifeforms (Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 2 #5).

In 7358, a newer variation becomes known to the Colonials, and is dubbed the super basestar (Battlestar Galactica: Death of Apollo #2). As with the super basestar, the operating system is a unified sentience, thus allowing basestars to be controlled from any active terminal aboard (Battlestar Galactica: Death of Apollo #4).
