Giles (alternate)

Giles is an ensign and Viper pilot serving aboard Galactica.

Personality

Giles values camaraderie and positive spirits among his fellow warriors. He expresses reservations about Croft, noting he is "not exactly the most cheerful sport" he has encountered. However, Lieutenant Boomer suggests that Giles places too much emphasis on good times and camaraderie, explaining that Croft simply has a different personality type.

Despite this assessment, Giles demonstrates a friendly and personable nature, particularly in his interactions with Boxey, whom he greets warmly and whose hair he affectionately ruffles when encountering the boy in an unusual section of the ship.

Service aboard Galactica

Return from Yevra

Following the mission to Yevra, Giles expresses eagerness to see the returning pilots, particularly his friend Lieutenant Starbuck, as well as Captain Apollo, Lieutenant Sheba, and even Croft. While waiting near the engineering afterdeck's elevator bank with Boomer, Giles encounters Boxey, who appears to be in an unusual part of the ship.

When Boxey claims to be "on a mission," Giles responds with a condescending, knowing smile and plays along with what he perceives to be a child's game. After Boomer tells Boxey the fictional story of "Cylons of the afterdeck," Giles encourages the boy to accompany them to the bridge to greet his father. When Boxey refuses and the two warriors leave, Giles reluctantly participates in Boomer's subsequent search for the boy, though he remains skeptical of Boomer's concerns.

Giles performs his search duties halfheartedly, seeing little of interest beyond "dusty floors and dirty glass partitions in front of oddly iridescent machinery." Like many warriors, he distrusts engineers and shows little interest in machinery. He comments on how quickly Boxey disappeared, suggesting the boy had reason to flee.

Concern for Apollo

Later, in the Officers' Lounge, Giles joins Boomer and Lieutenant Jolly in discussing Apollo's despondent state following Commander Adama's decision to disband the search parties for Boxey. He questions why Adama refuses to allow Apollo to continue searching alone. Along with Jolly, Giles mutters that "the commander can be a real hard case sometimes."

Battle with Spectre's forces

During the major engagement against Spectre's forces, Giles pilots a Viper in combat operations. Starbuck, observing the battle from the SuperViper, notes Giles's effective combat performance alongside pilots such as Boomer and Greenbean.
