Name: Adar
Rank: Commander (Military) / President (Civilian)
Position: President of the Twelve Colonies of Mankind (deceased); Commander, Battlestar Atlantia
Portrayed By: Lew Ayres
Biography
Leader of the Quorum at the time of the decimation of the 12 Colonies of Mankind, as well as commander of Battlestar Atlantia. Lord Baltar deceives him, and he is maneuvered into embracing the façade of a forthcoming peace with the Cylon Empire. Adar holds back on suggestions from Adama concerning precautionary measures, which might have saved additional lives and military assets. However, Adar laments upon the horrific discovery that the peace effort was all a front for the Cylon's final strike against Humanity. Adar perishes when Cylon raiders manage to take Atlantia by surprise at Cimtar, thus heralding its destruction (Saga of a Star World).
Notes
Lew Ayres was a pacifist who refused to be a soldier in the U.S. Military during World War II, but did partake in the war effort by saving lives as a medic. Also, Ayres' controversial ideas made some people (and companies) boycott his productions, i.e. Doctor Kildare.
The word "Adar" comes from the name of the sixth month of the Hebrew year.
His re-imagining series analog is President Richard Adar.
