Cyrus, or Cy, is a Cylon Centurion rebuilt by Starbuck to keep him from being lonely after he is separated from the Colonial Fleet.
At first, Cy attempts to kill Starbuck, but the Colonial Warrior's charm (and weapons) help Cy to change his mind.
Cy fights off other Centurions after Starbuck helped Angela and her child leave the planet in a makeshift rescue boat. The robot, understanding the concept of friendship, sacrifices himself to save Starbuck (1980: "The Return of Starbuck").
Comic book appearance
Cyrus is the subject of his own short-lived comic from Maximum Press entitled The Rebirth of Cy, Part 1. Ignoring the continuity from Galactica 1980, he is known as Cylon 8765 who experiences a malfunction after his Raider encounters an ion storm. After being rescued by Base Ship 127, he begins to question the objectives of the Cylon Empire and believes that the extermination of the human species is wrong. He hopes to ask the human Warrior they had captured, who turns out to be Starbuck. However, as there is no continuation of this story, Cy's fate in the Maximum Press storyline remains unknown.

Doctor Cyrus Xander is Daniel Graystone's assistant at Graystone Industries 58 years before the Fall of the Twelve Colonies. Sometime prior to relocating to Caprica, Xander witnessed or heard of authorities on his home colony arresting suspected enemies and causing them to disappear forever (CAP: "Apotheosis").
Xander interfaces with the Ministry of Defense on the U-87 Project that begets the creation of the Cylon prototype. He worries that the contract for U-87 project would go off world to Tomas Vergis, after discovering that Vergis Corporation successfully created a meta-cognitive processor. He is present at the demonstration of the Cylon prototype to Joan Leyte, the new Caprican Minister of Defense (CAP: Caprica pilot) and later informs Daniel that the original prototype is the only machine to be self-aware and possess true, adaptive artificial intelligence (CAP: "Rebirth").
Sometime afterward, Xander takes on the role of defender and personal supporter for Daniel. In the wake of Amanda Graystone's public statements about their daughter's involvement in the Maglev bombing, he arranges for Priyah Magnus to consult Daniel on a public relations strategy (CAP: "Reins of a Waterfall"). At a meeting of Graystone Industries senior executives, Xander responds to demands for Daniel's removal by reminding them that "Daniel Graystone is the brand" and that removing him would be suicide for the company (CAP: "There is Another Sky"). Xander is dismayed and angered to hear that Daniel used Ha'la'tha to steal the meta-cognitive processor, but eventually calmed and offered guidance on how he should talk with Tomas Vergis and deal with Vergis' accusations (CAP: "Know Thy Enemy"). As problems mount and Vergis takes the CEO position from Daniel, Xander remains loyal to Daniel, keeping the ruined remains of the original U-87 despite Vergis' order to scrap them, and reporting to Daniel on developments inside Graystone Industries (CAP: "End of Line," "Unvanquished").
Following Daniel's reinstatement as CEO, Xander becomes involved in the development of advertising for Grace software, using Daniel's image without prior permission. He later brings to Daniel's attention irregularities in U-87 production and shipping, eventually leading to the discovery of combat robots being diverted by the Ha'la'tha to new customers - the Soldiers of the One on Gemenon (CAP: "False Labor").
Xander is in the process of leading an investigation of and a response to an attack on Daniel and his wife in their home, when Director Gara Singh and Global Defense Department agents arrive to arrest the Graystones. Suspecting that Singh has created a pretense for secretly detaining or killing the Graystones, Xander produces a pistol and holds the GDD personnel at bay, giving Daniel, Amanda, and their bodyguard Sean a chance to escape (CAP: "Apotheosis").

Doctor Cyrus is a scientist aboard Galactica who specializes in Kobolian history.
In his absence, Cain accompanies Adama and a team from Galactica to Earth's surface to investigate the foreign object on its surface (War of Eden 3), and is later on life station which results in Cain's involvement in the mission that discovers Ares' on an ancient Kobolian ship (The Enemy Within 1).
Later, Cyrus investigates Ares's damaged Kobolian ship, which he authenticates, confirming it to be the genuine article although its occupant is not (The Enemy Within 2-3).

Plot
During the pursuit of two Vipers, a Centurion finds itself afflicted with guilt after experiencing "malfunctions" caused by an ion storm it encounters.
Summary
- In 7342, Starbuck and Apollo are under attack by a group of Cylon Raiders. During their pursuit, the Raiders launched by Base Ship 127 are overcome by an ion storm which disables the Raiders, thus allowing the Vipers to escape.
- Cylon 8765 reports his position to his baseship, and is brought in by a tractor beam. He reports to his leader, an IL-series Cylon, who orders him to interrogate the human pilot they had captured. He is told to extract the information of the Fleet by any means necessary.
- Cylon 8765 determines that it was afraid, which runs contrary to Cylon programming. It reports to the main computer, where it learns about the Thousand-Yahren War; 8765 damages the computer in a fit of rage, declaring how wrong it is to destroy an entire race.
- 8765's commander encounters him in the hallway, inquiring as to why the Cylon failed to interrogate the human. 8765 notes that he had a malfunction that needed to be corrected, which is a lie. The IL-series Cylon accompanies 8765 down to the holding cell, where 8765 hopes to be able to talk to the human in order to understand his moral dilemma.
- The human in question is revealed to be none other than Starbuck.
Notes
- While eschewing events of Galactica 1980, this comic brings back the character of Cyrus from "The Return of Starbuck," who becomes sympathetic to the humans after questioning his own beliefs. However, there is no continuation to this story, since Maximum Press abandoned writing any further Original Series comics.
- The story was printed in Asylum #10, an issue of Maximum Press' anthology series featuring Terry Moore's Lady Supreme.
- This tale does not have a conclusion, since Maximum Press dropped the Battlestar Galactica property in favor of working on its own properties.
Analysis
- Cy's "malfunction" is started by the use of a spatial anomaly, in this case an ion storm. Ion storms have been in other science fiction stories, such as Star Trek, to explain crossover between universes (i.e. the "normal universe" and the "mirror universe"). Unlike "The Return of Starbuck," Cy is convinced to become friends with Starbuck out of necessity, and from that necessity both learn about their opposite's race.
- While consulting the main computer, Cy is told that the Cylons attacked the Colonies in 7221. However, according to Maximum Press's own timeline, the war began in 6342, which possibly means one of two things:
- The Cylons have a different time keeping system than the Colonials. (Therefore, 7221 is the same yahren as 6342, which means the events of the comic take place in 8221, otherwise known as the Colonial Yahren 7342.)
- This is an error.
