Marta Shaw was a well known Quorum of Twelve delegate with connections in the Colonial Fleet, and the mother of Kendra Shaw. Prior to the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, Marta Shaw had succumbed to cancer, with her death having been reported throughout the Twelve Colonies. Admiral Helena Cain accused Lieutenant Shaw of exploiting her mother's fame and connections in order to gain a posting aboard Cain's command, the battlestar Pegasus ^{(TRS: "Razor")}.

Notes

• The timing of Marta Shaw's death is not made explicit, but dialogue in "Razor" suggests that it happened in the relatively recent past prior to her daughter's assignment to Pegasus.
