Captain Ramirez was a Marine officer who commanded a reconnaissance unit on Djerba during the 10th year of the First Cylon War, circa 42 BCH (58YR).
Ramirez led a fifty-person marine recon team that was inserted on the ice moon as part of a covert operation involving Dr. Becca Kelly's mission to infiltrate a Cylon transmission array.[1] The unit was tasked with securing the area and providing support for Kelly's infiltration of the automated Cylon facility.
However, Ramirez and his entire unit were killed before William Adama, Coker Fasjovik, and Dr. Kelly arrived at the rendezvous point. According to the sole survivor, Technical Sergeant Xander Toth, the Marines were attacked and slaughtered by Cylon creatures - half-machine, half-organic predators that the Cylons had been experimenting with on Djerba.[2] Toth reported that "Captain's down there with the rest of 'em" when asked about Ramirez's whereabouts.[3]
The frozen bodies of Ramirez's marines were later discovered by the arriving team, bearing savage slashing wounds from the attackers, embedded in the glacier where they had made their final stand.[4]
Analysis
edit sourceRamirez's death, along with that of his entire unit, demonstrated the escalating nature of Cylon experimentation and the increasing dangers faced by Colonial forces operating in enemy territory. The loss of an entire Marine Recon team to previously unknown Cylon bioweapons represented a significant intelligence failure and highlighted the Cylons' evolving capabilities during the later stages of the First Cylon War.
