The Demetrius is a sewage processing ship in the Fleet and survives the Battle of the Ionian Nebula.
After Kara Thrace's return, a torn William Adama sends Thrace and a hand-picked crew in the Demetrius on a mission to find Earth, despite Laura Roslin's warnings that Thrace is not to be trusted (Six of One). The Colonial public are told that they are on a survey mission to find food sources, though it's disappearance is a matter of considerable media attention.
The Demetrius is accompanied by a detachment of four Vipers secured to the hull platform, and is supplied with a vast array of navigational charts. At least one raptor is docked to a structure on the side of the ship (The Ties That Bind).
The hand-pick crew consists of:
- Karl "Helo" Agathon
- Felix Gaeta
- Sharon "Athena" Agathon
- Samuel Anders
- Diana"Hardball" Seelix
- Eammon "Gonzo" Pike
- Three unknown crew members.
Design
The main quarters area of the ship are small and cramped like that of a submarine. The only known separate compartment is the captain's bridge.
Notes
- Its name is first shown on the voting tally board in "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II".
- When Kendra Shaw tries to tune in to a Talk Wireless interview with Gaius Baltar, she picks up a transmission from the Adriatic to the Demetrius concerning cargo wasting in Adriatics's holds (Razor).
- The ship will play a large role during the early episodes of Season 4. A partially completed set was revealed during a set tour in June 2006, showing the ship to have a configuration similar to that of a submarine.[1] According to Ron D. Moore, he describes the ship as the "closest we’ve ever come to a sort of Das Boot – type look and feel on this programme since the [2003] mini series".[2] It is set to make its debut in episode five or six.[1]
- Demetrius I was a Greco-Bactrian king who reigned circa 200-180 BCE as well as many other historical figures.
- Demeter is the Greek goddess of grain and agriculture, the pure nourisher of youth and the green earth, the health-giving cycle of life and death, and preserver of marriage and the sacred law.
