Jim "Sunshine" Kirby is a Viper pilot on detachment from the battlestar Valkyrie. He is an old friend of Coker Fasjovik, and was thought to be killed after the apparent destruction of the Battlestar at the hands of the Cylons near Canceron Prime.

Officially, he is listed as KIA by the Colonial Fleet. He sacrificed his past life for an opportunity to strike the Cylons when they least expected it. His wife, Janey, had a baby boy, Anslem, who was named after his father (Blood and Chrome).
