Gemenon was the first world colonized by the humans of Kobol. It shares its orbit around Helios Alpha with Caprica, completing an rotation once every 28.2 days. Its status as a twin planet gives it its name. Its climate can vary wildly, featuring frozen plateaus, and searing deserts, which can make life difficult for its inhabitants.

It was one of the poorer colonies and its people, the Gemenese, were known for their religious fundamentalism ^{(TRS: "Scattered" and "Dirty Hands")}.

Before the First Cylon War, Gemenon was home to the Kobol Colleges ^{(TRS: "Miniseries, Night 2")} and a monotheistic cult called "The Soldiers of the One" (STO). Beginning in 58 BCH (42YR), the first U-87 Cyber Combat Units were sold on the black market to the STO, and would eventually lead into escalations that laid the groundwork for the genesis of the Cylons turning on their creators ^{(CAP: "Pilot", "Blowback" and "Apotheosis")}. Gemenon's second-largest city, Illumini, was built around a large Pantheon complex, composed of buildings intended to worship and celebrate every deity in the Sacred Scrolls.

The Gemenese were known for their literal interpretations of the Scrolls ^{(TRS: "Fragged")}. Most of the population of Gemenon was apparently very strongly opposed to the federal laws legalizing abortion ^{(TRS: "The Captain's Hand")}.

The planet also had either an old or disused language, known as Old Gemenese ^{(TRS: "Razor")}.

During the Cylon attack, Gemenon comes under heavy assault by Cylon air and ground forces, completely obliterating one city with a high-yield nuclear device, and causing extensive damage to another with conventional means. At least one ship, the Cybele, is able to escape the destruction of its port and occupying Cylon forces, and find Roslin's fleet ^{(TRS: "The Plan")}.

Three months after the attacks, approximately 9,500 Gemenese break away from the main fleet, and join the Laura Roslin faction over Kobol ^{(TRS: "Home, Part I")}. The large and devoted Gemenese population continues to be an important political factor within the fugitive fleet ^{(TRS: "The Captain's Hand")}.

Notes

• If the word "Inviere" (meaning "Resurrection") is any indication, Old Gemenese was probably similar to the Romanian language of our Earth.
• According to Serge's Twitter account, Gemenon is the planet that shares its orbit with Caprica. This planet is seen at the beginning of the aired Caprica pilot, but is not clearly identified as such until Caprica's "The Heavens Will Rise" in a visual transition from Caprica to Gemenon.
• As an Easter Egg in The Plan, the building on the lower left of the screen is the same one where the Romulan Senate assembles in Star Trek Nemesis. A detailed picture of this building is available here.

Additional Information

Gemenon Liner 1701 is one of the first ships to be found by Laura Roslin and Colonial One after the Cylon attack on the Twelve Colonies. By the time the ship is found, it is in a spin and nearly powerless.

Only a few moments after the ship is found, two Cylon Raiders appear and launch nuclear missiles at the convoy. Lee "Apollo" Adama uses Colonial One's own FTL drive to flood an energy coil being stored in its hangar bay with an excess of energy, thereby producing an electromagnetic pulse. The pulse confuses the Cylon DRADIS into displaying a nuclear detonation, and has the added effect of disarming the nuclear warheads, thereby saving the convoy ^{(TRS: "Miniseries")}.

Following the attack, the ship is evacuated and left derelict, as there is no time to repair it, and it never becomes part of the Fleet.

Notes

• The Gemenon Liner 1701 seems to share many of the Olympic Carrier's design features, suggesting a common manufacturer.
• Throughout the series, a Gemon Liners passenger liner is seen throughout the fleet. This cannot be Gemenon Liner 1701 as it was abandoned in the Miniseries.
• During an exterior shot just prior to this scene, Colonial One, a Gemenon Traveler/Kimba Huta type ship, and a Flattop-type ship can be seen approaching a red luxury liner, engaged in a clockwise spin. The captain of Colonial One announces that they will be approaching the liner's starboard docking hatch, which matches the physical arrangement of the ships in the external shot.
• The CGI model of this ship, made available on Gabriel Köerner's website, identifies a liner in similar red livery as belonging to Gemon Liners.
• The number '1701' is an in-joke to the registry numbers of the various Enterprises featured in Star Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation. Ron D. Moore was a long-time writer for the Star Trek sequels.

Gemenon Traveler is a heavy cargo transport in the Fleet, notable for its presence of another humanoid Cylon, a copy of Leoben Conoy who escaped to this ship during the Fall of the Twelve Colonies ^{(TRS: "Flesh and Bone" and "The Plan")}.

Ten days after the attack on the Colonies, Conoy had managed to crack the military wireless transmissions. Seventeen days after the attacks, shortly after the announcement that Cylons look like humans, two marines were handing pictures of Aaron Doral and Conoy to passengers onboard. After overhearing the marines, Conoy passed two civilians who then ran into the Marines and said they just saw him. Conoy was forced into hiding.

Twenty-four days after the attacks, Conoy had conversed with Brother Cavil about his belief in Kara "Starbuck" Thrace following the capture of a Cylon Raider eight days earlier. The conversation was cut short when Conoy was captured ^{(TRS: "The Plan")}.

Twenty-five days after the attacks, Gemenon Traveler's captain contacted President Laura Roslin about Conoy. She then ordered Commander William Adama to send Lieutenant Kara "Starbuck" Thrace to subsequently interrogate the Cylon, who Roslin had airlocked ^{(TRS: "Flesh and Bone")}.

The ship's name was present on the voting tally boards on Galactica and Colonial One ^{(TRS: "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II")}.

Notes

• In "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II," the ship's name is spelled as Gemenon Traveller on the voting boards aboard Galactica and Colonial One.
• The ship was first named in production for vessels that eventually became Kimba Huta ^{(TRS: "The Farm")} and Thera Sita ^{(TRS: "The Passage")}. But when "Flesh and Bone" was released, the Gemenon Traveler was redesigned with a greenish hull and the engines where grafted to the hull. It had not made another appearance throughout the entire series until "The Plan".
• A modified version of this craft is featured in the Original Series' Dynamite Entertainment comic books, introduced in ^{(Comics: Classic Battlestar Galactica Vol. 2 #6)} as the pleasure liner Ariadna.
• The interior where Thrace interrogates Conoy is a modification of the Armistice Station meeting area seen briefly in the Miniseries.

The Gemenon Data Processing Complex is an installation in Colonial space in orbit around a green-hued planet .

According to its caretaker, Anna Bazinet of Colonial Intelligence, it contains sensitive, classified information of the highest level.

At the time of the Cylon attack, she awaits for a detachment of personnel to help her in the maintenance of the installation. However, they are reassigned to Pegasus during the attack .

By happenstance, the Astral Queen jumps to this installation as they are unable to get a DRADIS feed from Caprica Receiving Station. After they dock with this complex, Bazinet asks for some help in retrieving server equipment containing top secret information from the Colonial Fleet. Several prisoners, including Tom Zarek, Benedict Mason and Duby, with Queen security officer Eric Seaborne aid in this. However, the complex is boarded by Centurions, killing all but Zarek, Mason and Seaborne, who return to the Queen as it jumps away from the Cylon taskforce and to Ragnar ^{(Comics: Battlestar Galactica: Zarek #4)}.

Colonial Fleet Hub, referred to as Colonial Fleet Hub, Gemenon or Gemenon Control, is a space station in orbit of Gemenon, capable of housing many battlestars and other various military craft.

Pegasus docks here to offload her Vipers for maintenance and upgrades before receiving orders to find the Chronos.

Aaron Doral, Number Six and Simon, all humanoid Cylons are able to infiltrate this facility months prior to the attack (Battlestar Galactica: Pegasus).

The Gemenon Interplanetary Spaceport (Gemonese: Portul Spațial Gemenon), also known as Oranu Spaceport, is a facility located within Oranu, Gemenon. It provides off-world flights to locations within the Twelve Worlds including destinations to Picon, Caprica, and Tauron. The spaceport's official abbreviation is UTGX ^{(CAP: "Blowback")}. In 58 BCH (42YR), Lacy Rand and Odin Sinclair arrive here from their respective colonies. They are met by Diego, who leads them to the jump ship headed to the Monotheist Church enclave ^{(CAP: "Things We Lock Away" and "Blowback")}.

Notes

• The Gemenon Interplanetary Spaceport interiors were filmed at the Vancouver Public Library in Vancouver, British Columbia.
• While not stated in dialogue, the spaceport's name, Oranu Spaceport, is seen on the flight notice boards in "Blowback." Furthermore, in the podcast commentary for "Blowback," the spaceport is mentioned as the arrival point for Lacy Rand on Gemenon before she takes a connecting flight to the Soldiers of the One training retreat. Caprica executive Tom Lieber reaffirms the spaceport's location in Oranu, supporting the brief on-screen evidence.

Gemenon Traveler captain

Gemenon Traveler's captain airlocks Leoben Conoy ^{(TRS: "Flesh and Bone")}.

After discovery of a copy of Leoben Conoy aboard, the captain contacts President Laura Roslin, who wishes to interrogate the Cylon. Having had the most experience with Cylons, Lieutenant Kara "Starbuck" Thrace is ordered to interrogate and meets this captain, who presents Conoy to her. During this, she shares with him her observation regarding Conoy's ability to sweat, which he marvels at.

After Roslin puts an end to Thrace's interrogation, the captain oversees and implements Roslin's airlocking of Conoy ^{(TRS: "Flesh and Bone")}.

The unnamed captain was played by Eric Breker, who later portrayed George Chu in "Sacrifice," a wholly different character.
