Diana Seelix is a deckhand aboard Galactica.
She survives the crash of Raptor 1 on Kobol (Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II). She uses some basic medical training to attend to Socinus' wounds ("Scattered", "Valley of Darkness").
Seelix suffers a bullet wound to her leg while escaping a Cylon anti-aircraft emplacement on Kobol, but Cally Henderson drags her to safety. The group is later rescued by Galactica (Fragged).
Later, Seelix returns to duty aboard Galactica with Chief Tyrol's deck crew. There, she and the other deckhands throw a welcome back party for Cally when she is released from the brig.
She assists in the construction of the Blackbird (Flight of the Phoenix).
After the discovery of New Caprica she settles on the planet. When the Cylons find and occupy the planet, she becomes active in the resistance movement and helps to rescue many people - including Cally Tyrol, Laura Roslin and Tom Zarek - from a Cylon Centurion execution squad (Exodus, Part I).
Shortly after the exodus from New Caprica and her return to Galactica, Seelix becomes a member of the Circle; a secret presidential tribunal tasked with trying, convicting and, if warranted, executing humans who collaborated with the Cylons (Collaborators).
Some time later, she accompanies the Tyrols to airlock 12 on deck 14, where maintenance needs to be performed. When the Tyrols are trapped in the airlock and it begins to de-pressurize due to a small but widening hole in the hull, she tries unsuccessfully to reopen the inner airlock doors from the observation booth. After the incident, Seelix cares for Nicholas Tyrol while his parents are recovering from their exposure to space in Galactica's sickbay after their rescue (A Day in the Life).
After the workers' strike aboard Galactica and the refinery ship is resolved, Seelix is promoted to Ensign and begins flight training (Dirty Hands).
Notes[edit]
- When Seelix and crewmember Tarn first appeared in the season 1 finale, they were originally just generically named "Technician #1" (Tarn) and "Technician #2" (Seelix). However, Aaron Douglas, who plays Chief Tyrol, saw potential for the two characters, and after consulting together, they came up with names for the two characters. Douglas then just inserted their names into his lines on every take. So by the season 2 premiere, the credits officially started listing them with these names. Tarn died in the season premiere, but Seelix ultimately became a somewhat recurring character, reappearing in "Flight of the Phoenix" and the early episodes of season three.
- The extended podcast for the episode "A Day In The Life", which lets viewers listen in the editing of the episode, recalls the circumstances of how Aaron Douglas began the first use of "Seelix" for the character's name, which was essentially improvised during filming.
- Seelix first appeared in "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I", in Raptor 1 when it is shot down, but was uncredited until the following episode.
