Jurgen Belzen was Admiral Helena Cain's long-time Executive Officer on Pegasus. He was presumably publicly executed by Cain when he expressed hesitancy to launch the ships' fighters during a bold assault on a staging area filled with fifteen squadrons of Raiders. After his death she promoted Jack Fisk to replace him. Fisk tells this story (and later recants it) while drunk to Colonel Saul Tigh, which Tigh believed to be true when he recounts it in turn to Commander Adama.

Jurgen Belzen was Admiral Helena Cain's long-time Executive Officer on Pegasus.

He takes part in what the Pegasus crew thinks to be an attack on a small Cylon communications relay, but turns out to be a large staging area. Admiral Cain orders an attack on the Cylons, but he refuses, after which Cain kills him (Razor).

He is later referred to by Jack Fisk in a conversation with Colonel Tigh. According to Fisk, Cain asked for his sidearm, and then shot him in the head in front of the entire CIC crew. This prompted Fisk's promotion to Executive Officer. Although Fisk later says that he has been lying, Tigh remains convinced that he has been telling the truth. According to Fisk, Belzen was a longtime friend of Admiral Cain (Pegasus).

Notes

 • Although some doubt exists to the veracity of Fisk's claims in the episode "Pegasus", Ronald D. Moore said in a blog entry that all of it is in fact true.
 • His surname should be written "Jürgen" or "Juergen", but it's common for people to drop diacritical marks when becoming citizens of English-speaking countries, regardless of the different pronunciation.
