Additional Information

The Colonial Viper is the primary single-seat space superiority fighter used by the Colonial Fleet. Deployed from the battlestar Galactica, these fighters are the Fleet's main defense against Cylon attacks and are flown by elite Colonial Warriors such as Apollo, Starbuck, and Boomer.

Vipers are organized into various squadrons, including Blue, Red, and Green Squadrons, which are tasked with convoy patrol, escort duty, and direct combat engagements ((ComicsLook-In Magazine: Storyline 1), (ComicsLook-In Magazine: Storyline 3)).[1][2]

The craft is capable of both space and atmospheric flight, armed with lasers, and can be equipped with specialized missiles, such as the one Apollo uses to deliver a modified impulse microvator to a Cylon assault ship (ComicsLook-In Magazine: Storyline 1).[3] Vipers are also equipped with a survival system that can eject the cockpit as an escape capsule (ComicsLook-In Magazine: Storyline 1).[4]

Throughout their encounters, Vipers have proven effective against Cylon Raiders but have also shown vulnerabilities. They have been destroyed by overwhelming numbers, novel Cylon tactics like the tylium fuel weapon, and even extreme flight stress, as seen when Starbuck's Viper breaks up during a high-G maneuver ((ComicsLook-In Magazine: Storyline 1), (ComicsLook-In Magazine: Storyline 2)).[5][6]
