Agro-2 is an Agro Ship within the Fleet that is destroyed during the battle with the Chitain.
History
edit sourceBattle with the Chitain
edit sourceAgro-2 is among the thirty-seven fleet vessels obliterated during the catastrophic battle with the Chitain. Of these destroyed ships, all but five are entirely civilian vessels. Other notable losses include Scorpius Ascending and Valkyrior.[1]
The fleet faces an enemy perhaps even more deadly than the Cylons. Between Galactica, Daedelus, and Pegasus, the three battlestars have only one hundred and seven Vipers remaining after the battle, having each lost more than half of their force of Colonial Warriors and starfighters.[1]
Impact on the fleet
edit sourceThe loss of Agro-2 is felt profoundly by the Fleet. The survivors desperately need food production capacity and somewhere to grow crops, as well as more tylium to make fuel. The destruction of this vital agricultural vessel compounds the fleet's already dire situation, as hundreds are horribly wounded and people are starving. With insufficient food and fuel, Commander Apollo feels as though the fleet has taken a step back nearly twenty yahren, to the catastrophic days immediately after departing the Twelve Colonies.[1]
The somber mood following the battle reflects the profound weariness of the human race. Having lived to tell of their encounter with the Chitain, the survivors face the grim reality that they are tired of fighting and tired of running. Despite technically winning the battle, the victory feels hollow given the tremendous losses sustained.[1]
With Cain's evacuated colonists and four added warships joining the fleet, the total number of ships is reduced by only nineteen despite the thirty-seven vessels destroyed. However, the loss of Agro-2 represents a critical blow to the fleet's sustainability, making Agro-3 even more essential to the fleet's survival (RH: Warhawk).
Notes
edit source- The destruction of Agro-2 occurs after the fleet had already lost most of its original agro ships, with Agro Ship 9 being the sole surviving agro ship following a Cylon attack in Original Series' "The Magnificent Warriors".
