Diana was a Gemenese civilian transport in operation during the First Cylon War. Both Diana and her military escort were destroyed in an ambush by the Cylons, and 50 of her passengers and crew were captured. The survivors were sent to a Cylon lab on an unnamed ice planet, where they were subjected to inhumane experiments, in which nearly all were killed.

Only two survivors remain when William Adama parachutes into the Cylon lab after Operation Raptor Talon. He musters all his strength to pry open the door to free the last two prisoners, but he cannot open it enough for them to escape. He is forced to abandon them when the facility (a basestar) begins to take off (TRS: Razor Flashbacks, Episode 6).

For others with this same first name, see: Diana.

Diana "Hardball" Seelix is first a deckhand and later a Viper qualified pilot aboard Galactica.

She survives the crash of Raptor 1 on Kobol (TRS: "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II"). She uses some basic medical training to attend to Socinus' wounds ("Scattered," "Valley of Darkness").

Seelix suffers a bullet wound to her leg while escaping a Cylon anti-aircraft emplacement on Kobol, but Cally Henderson drags her to safety. The group is later rescued by Galactica (TRS: "Fragged").

Later, Seelix returns to duty aboard Galactica with Chief Tyrol's deck crew. There, she and the other deckhands throw a welcome back party for Henderson when she is released from the brig.

She assists in the construction of the Blackbird (TRS: "Flight of the Phoenix"). Seelix's specialization is in avionics (TRS: "Dirty Hands").

Seelix on New Caprica

After the discovery of New Caprica she settles on the planet. When the Cylons find and occupy the planet, she becomes active in the resistance movement and helps to rescue many people - including Cally Tyrol, Laura Roslin and Tom Zarek--from a Cylon Centurion execution squad (TRS: "Exodus, Part I").

Shortly after the exodus from New Caprica and her return to Galactica, Seelix becomes a member of the Circle, a secret presidential tribunal tasked with trying, convicting and executing humans who collaborated with the Cylon. She is among the less scrupulous members. (TRS: "Collaborators").

Some time later, she accompanies the Tyrols to airlock 12 on deck 14, where maintenance needs to be performed. When the Tyrols are trapped in the airlock and it begins to depressurize due to a small but widening hole in the hull, she tries unsuccessfully to reopen the inner airlock doors from the observation booth. Seelix cares for Nicholas Tyrol while his parents are recovering in Galactica's sickbay from their exposure to space during their rescue (TRS: "A Day in the Life").

At an unspecified point in time, Seelix applies to become a pilot, passing the written exam with flying colors but is rejected because she is one of the best available avionics specialists and the Fleet needs every able-bodied person available to stay where they are to keep itself operational. After the workers' strike aboard Galactica and the refinery ship is resolved, Seelix is promoted to Ensign and begins flight training (TRS: "Dirty Hands").

She becomes a skilled Viper pilot - callsign "Hardball" (TRS: "He That Believeth in Me") - demonstrated by successfully destroying a missile meant for Colonial One during the Battle of the Ionian Nebula. Seelix is part of the Demetrius's crew on its mission to find Earth (TRS: "The Ties That Bind"). There she becomes involved in the mutiny against Kara Thrace, revealing her belief that Thrace is a Cylon and should be airlocked (TRS: "Faith").

Seelix participates in the Battle of the Resurrection Hub. She urges a panicking Eammon Pike to not jump away from the battle after his Raptor is damaged, and fires nuclear missiles to destroy the Hub (TRS: "The Hub").

After the discovery of a devastated Earth, Seelix is on the hangar deck when Adama's Raptor returns from the surface. She later is the first to note Anastasia Dualla's suicide and tends to the dying woman (TRS: "Sometimes a Great Notion").

Seelix later confesses to Anders that she feels her prior relationship with him was a fabrication since he is a Cylon. He attempts to explain that his emotions were genuine at the time, but she is merely distracting him. Several kidnappers come, cover his face, and beat Anders. Seelix and the men are participants in the mutiny led by Felix Gaeta (TRS: "The Oath").

The mutiny is thwarted, and Seelix is sent along with the other surviving mutineers to the Astral Queen[2].

Weeks later, Admiral Adama offers the mutineers their freedom in exchange for participating in what is essentially a suicide mission to rescue Hera Agathon from Cavil's forces. It is is unknown if Seelix accepts this offer.

Since she does not appear in the final episode, Seelix's ultimate fate is unknown. If she survives the final battle or chooses not to participate, she presumably settles with the rest of the Colonials on the planet they decide to call Earth.

Notes

  • Seelix first appeared in "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I," in Raptor 1 in an uncredited role until the following episode.
  • The extended podcast for the episode "A Day In The Life," which lets viewers listen in the editing of the episode, recalls the circumstances of how Aaron Douglas began the first use of "Seelix" for the character's name, which was essentially improvised during filming. When Seelix and Tarn first appeared in the Season 1 finale, they were originally named generically as "Technician #1" (Tarn) and "Technician #2" (Seelix). Douglas, who plays Chief Tyrol, saw potential for the two characters, and after consulting together, they came up with names for both characters. Douglas then just inserted their names into his lines on every take. So by the Season 2 premiere, the credits officially started listing them with these names. Tarn died in the season premiere, but Seelix ultimately became a recurring character, reappearing in "Flight of the Phoenix" and into Season 4.
  • Seelix's first name, Diana, is revealed at the conclusion of the episode "Dirty Hands". The name "Diana" stems from the Roman name of the goddess Artemis, who is also one of the Lords of Kobol.

  1. This serial number comes from her dog tag. Note that this dog tag originates from Season 2, before the character was given the first name of "Diana," hence the "P."
  2. Confirmed by the podcast for Deadlock.

Diana is the aide to Aeries Quorum of Twelve Council Member Osiris, as well as his daughter.

Around the early 7330s[1], Diana trained as a Warrior with a focus on weapons, flying, and in computer sciences (Battlestar Galactica: Starbuck 2, 3, 4).

Complicit with her father's plans with the Cylon, she arranges to cover up Osiris' treachery relating to the destruction of Umbra in 7322. Initially, they keep tabs on McKintosh, a former employee of Osiris's who claimed to have information on the attack. While she knew about the data chip and the corresponding pendant, they did not move against McKintosh.

It isn't until 7346 that the truth of Umbra became a threat, as Boomer utilizes the Aeries datanet to decode the chip Starbuck won from McKintosh in 7335. Ordered by Osiris to deal with it—and much to her father's chagrin later on—she commits an act of terrorism by blowing up the server room aboard Galactica and attempts to kill two warriors (Ensign Starbuck and Lieutenant Apollo) when they return to investigate the bombing. These failures segues into another attempt on wiping out both Warriors via a Cylon ambush, with information Diana provides the Cylons relating to their forthcoming patrol route.

That ambush a failure, Osiris instructs Diana to bring Starbuck to him at the Aerian Administration Hub for a chat. With the chat ending poorly, Diana was able to utilize the DNA left on Starbuck's glass and the half-smoked fumerello to stage her next plan: framing Starbuck for the murder of Kandi Trieste (Battlestar Galactica: Starbuck 2).

After planting both Trieste's body and the evidence aboard Erin Dream, she succeeds in having Starbuck arrested and brought to the Hub. However, after Starbuck's escape (aided by Lord Baltar and Apollo), she is tasked with following Athena after Adama's removal from the Council of the Twelve.

She succeeds in stopping Athena from uncovering the last remaining footage that would prove Starbuck's innocence, and (with the help of a Centurion) extricate her to Thrace in order to prevent the evidence acquired by Apollo and Starbuck from McKintosh's ship from making the light of day (Battlestar Galactica: Starbuck 3).

Despite Osiris's promise to release Athena following the destruction of the Umbra evidence, Diana plans to kill Athena and destroy the tylium mining outpost on Thrace by means of overloading the reactor. While the Cylons at the facility follow their task of removing the last of the tylium before the facility's destruction, Athena frees herself and engages in hand-to-hand combat with Diana, who vastly under-estimated her opponent.

Athena stops short of killing Diana by Apollo's intervention, they leave her behind. She vainly attempts to stop the overload, and her attempt to have Lucifer and the Cylons save her also fails.

Before Diana dies, she sends a final message to her father, telling him that she loves him (Battlestar Galactica: Starbuck 4).
