Notes
- Katee Sackhoff noted that this episode could have served as the series finale depending on the length of the WGA strike.[3] However, this was not necessary, as the strike ended in a sufficient period of time for production to resume, combined with the fact that this episode will not air until the first quarter of 2009, given that the previous episode is a mid-season finale.
- This episode will have scenes between Kara Thrace and Leoben Conoy set in a forest, which (according to Jamie Bamber) is set on Earth.[3]
- The scenes were among the last shot and were shot during the crew's shut down party, so Sackhoff was unable to attend.[3]
- The title of the episode comes from the blues song "Goodnight, Irene," in which the singer contemplates suicide: "Sometimes I get a great notion / to jump in the river and drown." Sometimes A Great Notion is also the title of a novel by Ken Kesey and a film adaptation of the same name.
