Jay Johnson is a member of the National Guard out of Vandenberg Air Force Base.
At Colonel Jack Sydell's request, he and two trucks' worth of guardsman make their way to an old Nike base at the San Angelo Mountains. After clearing a tree that Troy forced down to obstruct the only path to the base, Johnson and his guardsmen accompany Sydell and Sheriff Ellsworth to the top of the mountain, only to find John Stockton and his otherwise abandoned van (1980: "The Super Scouts, Part II").

- ↑ Jay Johnson has the misfortune of having at least three first names, apparently, as the sheriff introduces him to Colonel Jack Sydell as Jay Johnson. Later, he calls him "John" after the cars have lost all power, and then calls him "Joe" when Johnson asks the sheriff what Sydell meant by "ship".
